thrilled we're are to have the world series champions back in san francisco. what a year it has been. it's been the year of the orange dragon. yeah! . orange october. but you know we have celebrated, we have screamed, we have shouted all year long and once again the giants have captured our imagination and team work and they did the hard work. often we look at sports and we have super stars and we have super stars but there is a motto on the clubhouse wall and it says "25 guys, one common goal,

win today". [cheers and applause] and they certainly live up to this motto. when i see young people, all of the city supporting giants gear it's about the impact of this team. it is hard work, perseverance and hard work and work with each other. did bruce bochy and these 25 guys quick when they lost the first two games against cincinnati? no. did they accept the inevitable with st. louis? no. they carried on with determination and experts and pundits predicted that this san francisco giants was going to the world series and team work

means everyone contributes and we saw those plays and three home runs for pablo sandoval right here in san francisco. [cheers and applause] . buster posey grand slam. [cheers and applause] outside there, yes! we saw the magic of the wonderful catch he did to save the out and jer nee affeldt and come up through the season and crow -- crawford saving the ball and all the pitchers and pitching their hearts out to zito to a felt and in comes romo . [cheers and applause] we needed everybody. we needed every skill. we needed that

great team work so today in recognition of their second world series championship in three years i am proud to present the highest honor we have in this city, the key to the city and county of san francisco to the whole team of the san francisco giants. [cheers and applause] you know we usually give keys to individual dignitaries who have accomplished great things, whether it was the president of ireland or people like tony bennett who has contributed so many of their years to our history, or even a matt cain and his wonderful perfect game in san francisco. we normally celebrate those individual accomplishments but today we're going to break with that tradition and present this key to the entire team and the coaching staff. everybody involved with the giants, the investors, their front office.

congratulations to a team that does not know how to quit, never gives up, and defies the odds at every opportunity. here's to showing the world who it means to play for each other. come on up larry for a key to the city to the whole team. series champion sweeps the opponents they deserve something special, so as the former public works director i know a little bit about sweeping and we have a little love for the whole team. the first of many i hope, and this is the broom to the city for the giants, the first ever. yes! congratulations on sweeping the world series championship. >> thank you mr. mayor. both the broom and the key will find a sacred place at at&t park because it belongs to the wonderful fans of the san francisco giants, the best fans in the world. thank you.

[cheers and applause] >> well, we just saw him but i wanted to give a formal introduction to a guy that has meant so much to this franchise, who grew up in san francisco rooting for the giantses and become a critical part of this giants organization, the giants president laurence baer. [cheers and applause] >> welcome giants fans everywhere. hello to way back. look at this. wow! what do you say we make a habit of getting together like this every late october? what do you think?

[cheers and applause] we all saw a lot of familiar faces and heard a lot of familiar voices on the parade route today. there were faces and voices which from february through october energized our players and coaches and manager and enabled them to bring home a world series championship. thank you. my favorite sign on the parade route was very simple. it said "san francisco, the happiest place on earth". and we're a happy place today because we see what a team can do in a two way love affair to bring a city and a team together as one. i remember when flying back from detroit on monday as the city flew over the

beautiful city in the bay area we all in the giants family wish we could go door to door to blow kirbs to every one of you to return the unconditional love you provided us selling out all 89 home games and all the wonderful fanses, and i see some of you that traveled withed team, road warriors to make road games feel like home games. you inspired us. we know you filled this plaza on sunday when we were in detroit. we know you cheer friday your couches at home, from your neighborhood street parties and then throughout october with the city we lit up the city. it was a washid orange from coit tower to the ferry building to right here at city hall. what can we take away from our 2012 giants? i believe we can take away life

lessons. vuch teachable moments for our children and our team did face challenges and whether facing injuries or newly acquired players or facing elimination game one after another. what were the life lessons? never give up no matter how high the mountain is to climb. have integrity and conduct yourself with professionalism. did this team do that? absolutely. play with a team with unselfish devotion. trust one another and love your team teammates and in always do so have fun and it's meant to be played as a game, so for the

rest of our lives i know this truly resonates for many of us. for the rest of our lives we will remember this team as a brilliant team, a team of character, a team of chemistry, and a team that ultimately clicked and we developed a short hand around our heroes and our giants experience that will always go on. harsh -- hash tag -- the baby ge raf, the freak, the horse, and the bull and on and on and on. that's what we love about this team. one national writer observed "whatever goes on in the san francisco clubhouse it's not like the rest of baseball". well, i have

something to add to that. i would say whatever goes on in our front office also is not like the rest of baseball. a championship team has an architect and our general manager brian saibian and his incredible staff are the best in baseball. [cheers and applause] he built a baseball operations department that is a model for scooting and analytics and player development and training and conditioning and brian has the perfect partner in executing all of this, and of course it is bruce bochy and his coaching staff. [cheers and applause] the last giant manager to win more than one world series was john mcgraw in 1921, but don't

let bochy fool you with his seemingly easy going nature. the wheels are always turning with him and we can say there is no finer manager in the game today. [cheers and applause] i want to acknowledge the foundation of the giants organization, our ownership group, 32 strong lead by charles johnson. they stepped up to serve as a stalt walt of this franchise and saved it in 1976 and then brought it to san francisco in the first place in 1958. i am proud each owner during the 55 years in san francisco is represented here today. as a fourth generation san franciscan growing up in the

richmond district my heroes did wear orange and black. i watched them with my dad and mays and the other players. they're all here today. i knew their story as well as i knew my own because their stories were mine. they were part of my heritage. my parents passed it down to him just as brandon crawford's parents passed it to him and you're passing it your children and pam and i are passing it our children. all my heroes still wear orange and black. there are those on the stage but there are also other people in orange and black. figuratively if not literally. they are the full time employees of this organization and the 1,000 event employees who work hard everyday to make sure the story of the san francisco

giants, the world champion san francisco giants is an extraordinary one. round for applause for all of the people that work for the giants and so you our fans and the familiar voices and faces. you have become our heroes as well. no team wins a world series without a little manic and that is you, the fans. baseball is continuous. every generation writes its own chapter. how incredible is this? right now right here our second world championship in three years. this is our chapter.
